Hehehe. The first thing the "KDE expert" does is post a question.  Wink

I have used konqueror and kget for downloading stuff for years now. It always worked fine with my dialup connection. My shiny new ADSL modem arrived yesterday and kget doesn't download anything. If I use wget on the commandline for the very same URL, it works. Same with Firefox. Just kget doesn't like my new ADSL connection.

Weird. Weird. Weird.

Which version of KGet are you using?

Any error messages?

My guess: The problem is related to the ADSL MTU.

BTW: You nearly made me an April's fool.

Version: KDE 3.5.6

Error messages: None. It just sits there, eventually timing out.

ADSL MTU: I doubt it for several reasons:
1.
The MTU is lowered to 1432 which looks right to me for PPPoE.
2.
MTU-related problems usually are with outgoing frames. This is about inbound frames.
3.
Firefox's download manager and wget, obviously using the same MTU, are working perfectly.

One day, I will find out why kget is not working. ;-)

Fools' Day: That was how it was meant. ;-) And I swear on a stack of beer barrels that I saw the "news" item about Mozilla and its cease-and-desist letter regarding tabbed browsing only after writing mine.

I think I have finally made kget work with ADSL.

My kget was still configured for a PPP connection. :-( I changed the setting to "Permanent", and now it works. Why that makes a difference, I don't know. Its help system doesn't explain it, and I am too lazy to go through the source right now.

One reason less to use firefox which I don't like for various reasons - chief among them its font handling.
