Title says it all, KDE 4.0.0 is out. Please find the official announcement here:
http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.0/Although this initial release within the 4 series of KDE is far from being as feature-rich as KDE 3.5.x, it is the starting point of a new era for the free and open desktop. With new technologies like Plasma, Phonon, Solid and the new theme Oxygen, it will eventually deliver what commercial desktops have promised.
For the first time, KDE has organised an international release event (
http://www.kde.org/kde-4.0-release-event/) at Google's headquarter in Mountainview for next weekend.
Makes we wonder: Maybe, we should have a KDE release party in Windhoek, too? Next Friday (18.01.2008) sounds right to me.

PS: I almost forgot this. Kudos and many, many thanks to all the KDE developers, artists, documentation writers, translators and their usability team. You did an outstanding job by pushing a vision into reality! I am quite confident that the KDE 4 series will blow away everything else on the desktop.
PPS: There is a very impressing screen cast covering the composite capabilities of KDE4 here:
