Hi All,

We are keen to be part of the Linux scene in Namibia. HansaWorld, the Business Management system we sell and support, runs on "any" platform. And its not web based. It has full server and client versions for Linux. And its possible to run this in a mixed environment, alongside Windows and Mac machines. So companies using our Business Management System can run all their workstations on Linux, which they can only do with more difficulty and cost with other platforms. So we are keen to get Linux desktops into the corporates. Check it out at www.afreshconsult.com. Comments and ideas are welcome. We would like to have contact with anyone interested in Linux.

Dont know if this forum is the right platform to post such messages, I'm pretty new to the blog thing...

Hi Immo

Welcome. This forum focuses on open source Linux solutions for SME's, whatever they are. So examples of how SME's are using Linux to drive their businesses would be very relevant.

So have you deployed any of your products on Linux platforms yet?

Hi Lancelot,

yes, all HansaWorld products are available for Linux platforms. HansaWorld is also a development partner of Ubuntu, although most customers run Suse servers. HansaWorld is a true client-server package and has GUI and command line server versions for Linux as well as Linux clients. Most customers run our software on mixed platforms however. Once case study is a customer in Namibia that has 160 users, of which about a 100 run on Linux desktops, the other desktops are mostly Windows and a few Macs. The server also is Linux. Being able to run on Linux desktops is a huge advantage for our customers in terms of TCO, i.e saving on OS licenses. So we want to see more Linux desktops around, and the idea that big companies cannot run their business management/accounting systems with Linux desktops is a myth.
