Hi!
After compiling KDE-4.0.3 (using emerge -DuNav world), and playing about with it, I noticed that my older KDE-3.5.9 has only been partially updated from 3.5.8 to 3.5.9. An emerge -DuNav kde-meta dutifully updated all KDE-3.5.8 packages to KDE-3.5.9 versions.
Then everything went wrong:
Starting KDE-4 resulted in it starting as expected, but starting KDE-3.5 resulted in KDE-4 to be started ON TOP of kde-4, which was a mess! And, no, I never ran KDE-4 under my working account, I had separate account for that. Beeeeg bug in startkde! (probably startkde-3.5.9, BTW)
At first I thought that this means that I should try and make do with KDE-4, but wpa_supplicant does not work when started under KDE-4 (!?!) and knetworkmanager don't work at all which meant no WiFi at all under KDE-4! ... and there's the pesky problem that konqueror-4 does not do proxies. At all. Nada. Nothing.
After struggling with it for hours, I had to unmerge KDE-4 to get back on the net (I'm at a conference in Germany, so WiFi is the only option).
I think I'll wait for 4.1 before I try again. An then only if I'm sure that basic, fundamental things like network access (WiFi, proxies, etc.) works! Otherwise, it's a no-go.
Oh well... :-(
Regards Riaan
